Plant Hire business fined $20,000 for waste offence.

A plant hire business has been convicted in Nowra Local Court for failure to remove waste glass stored unlawfully at their Victa Way Bomaderry premises.

The business was issued a prevention notice by the NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) to remove the waste by 11 October 2019. They failed to remove the waste until 29 March 2021.

EPA Acting Director Regional South Operations Jason Bentley said, ‘The correct storage of waste glass is important to ensure proper waste management practices are in place for things like dust suppression, to stop potential issues affecting neighbours or the environment.’

The court issued a $20,000 fine and ordered the business to publish notices in the Illawarra Mercury and South Coast Register with details of the offence. The plant hire business was also ordered to pay $8,000 of the EPA’s legal costs.
