This Mitre/Drop Saw Safe Operating Procedure (SOP) provides a way for your business to outline step-by-step safe processes when operating a mitre/drop saw.

Mitre/Drop Saw SOP:

  • Provides instructions on the use of the equipment both prior to and during operation.
  • Ensures workers recognise and manage associated hazards and risks involved.
  • Provides a training document for workers. 

Procedure:

  1. Operate in accordance with manufacturers’ instructions
  2. Wear prescribed PPE
  3. Clamp work pieces.
  4. Ensure long and heavy workpieces are properly supported
  5. Allow the blade to reach full speed before cutting,
  6. Do not force the blade and always start the cut gently
  7. After finishing the cut, raise the saw arm back to original position, release the switch & wait for the blade to stop completely before removing your workpiece
  8. Before making any adjustments, bring the saw to a complete standstill
  9. On completion, switch off the saw and disconnect the power source
  10. Clean work area of off cuts and sweep up all swarf
