This Forklift Jib Safe Operating Procedure (SOP) provides a way for your business to outline step-by-step safe processes when using a Forklift Jib.

Forklift Jib SOP:

  • Provides instructions on the use of the equipment both prior to and during operation.
  • Ensures workers recognise and manage associated hazards and risks involved.
  • Provides a training document for workers both. 

Procedure:

  1. Operate in accordance with manufacturers’ instructions
  2. Choose suitable forklift and checked ready for use with jib
  3. To fit the jib, set the fork blades to a spacing position central to the pockets on the jib
  4. The combined weight of the jib and load does not exceed the rated load of the forklift
  5. All loads to be lifted and lowered smoothly
  6. Make a preliminary lift of approximately 200 mm to establish that the load is stable
  7. Ensure the load or attachment does not slide on the floor or against another surface
  8. Make sure personnel never place themselves or any part of their bodies beneath a suspended load
  9. On completion, ensure the Forklift is fully closed down and secured
  10. Clean and check jib equipment -place in secure storage area
