WorkSafe issues warning after Perth assessor loses accreditation to carry out HRWL assessments
WorkSafe Issues Warning After Perth Assessor Loses Accreditation to Carry Out HRWL Assessments
WorkSafe WA has issued a warning to assessors, industry stakeholders, and the public after a Perth-based assessor had his High Risk Work Licence accreditation revoked for failing to conduct proper assessments of licence applicants.
According to WorkSafe, the assessor's accreditation has been revoked across all categories of licences, leaving him unable to perform assessments for any type of high risk work licence.
Why This News Matters for Licensing Compliance
This piece of news serves as a clear signal to every assessor conducting high risk work licence evaluations: compliance with assessment standards remains non-negotiable.
WorkSafe Commissioner Sally North has warned assessors that they are likely to be caught if they fail to carry out assessments accurately.
"This case has led me to warn other assessors that WorkSafe conducts regular compliance activities in the licensing area, and it is likely they will be caught if they're not meeting the required standards," Ms North said.
What This Means for the Risk Work Licence System
Genuine assessments protect workers operating dangerous machinery and equipment under a high risk work licence. When an assessor cuts corners, applicants may receive a work licence without demonstrating the competency required to work safely.
WorkSafe's ongoing compliance checks reinforce that every risk work licence assessment must meet rigorous, verifiable standards. Businesses relying on licence holders for high risk work should stay alert to updates and further information as this matter develops.
