Report published after fatal incident at NSW coal mine

OHS Daily News

The Resources Regulator has published ‘an investigation information release’ regarding an incident that occurred on 17 September 2024, in which a contract worker sustained fatal injuries after falling through a mine shaft.

“The incident occurred when contractors were preparing to attach steel plates to beams fixed to a shaft cover at the coal mine’s number 2 shaft. When the incident occurred, the mine was in a decommissioning phase and was being prepared for closure,” the regulator states in the report.

The report outlines the Regulator's initial probes into the incident's cause and details, while also offering safety tips to the industry.

The regulator has indicated that the mine operator and other relevant parties are aiding in further investigations, and a report will be issued following the conclusion of the investigation.
