Pilot seriously injured in WA light plane crash

A light plane has crashed in northern Western Australia, seriously injuring the pilot.

The aircraft crashed on a highway as the pilot attempted to land at Derby Airport on Tuesday afternoon.

The pilot suffered serious injuries while his sole passenger reportedly escaped unhurt.

Both were taken to Derby Hospital.

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau will investigate the circumstances of the incident.
