New workplace mental health code of practice comes into effect in Queensland

A new code of practice that aims to provide practical guidance to Queensland businesses on how to manage workplace psychosocial hazards has commenced.

Minister for Industrial Relations Grace Grace said the 'Managing the risk of psychosocial hazards at work Code of Practice', which became effective on Saturday, April 1, was created to promote mental health in the workplace and to raise awareness about the signs and symptoms of mental illness.

"The Palaszczuk Government is yet again leading the nation when it comes to the health and safety of our workers," Ms Grace said.

"Research has shown that workers benefit from psychologically healthy workplaces through better individual health, increased job satisfaction, commitment, positive attitudes toward self-development, and lower rates of work-related physical injuries."
