Woman hospitalised after gas explosion at food shop on Kangaroo Island

A woman sustained serious burns in a workplace incident on Kangaroo Island on Saturday afternoon.

She was working at a food shop in Penneshaw when a deep fat fryer reportedly exploded.

Fire crews and paramedics responded to the incident at around 5pm.

The woman received burns on her face, hands, and thighs.

She was quickly taken to a nearby hospital and later airlifted to an Adelaide hospital for additional care.
