Tasmania to expand presumptive cancers list for firefighters

The Tasmanian government has recently introduced legislation to expand the list of presumptive cancers for fire-fighters.

Nine more cancers will be added to the presumptive list after the bill tabled by Minister for Workplace Safety and Consumer Affairs, Elise Archer becomes law.

“The Workers Rehabilitation and Compensation Amendment Bill 2023 amends the schedule of diseases to which employment as a fire-fighter is presumed to have contributed to a substantial degree,” the Minister said.

The list includes female specific cancers like primary site cervical cancer, primary site ovarian cancer and primary site uterine cancer.
