Firefighter fatally struck by tree while battling blaze in northern NSW

A firefighter has died after being struck by a falling tree while fighting a bushfire in northern NSW.

The Rural Fire Service said the man was working on a bushfire near Walgett on Thursday night when the incident occurred.

Fellow firefighters provided initial care until paramedics arrived.

He was taken to Lighting Ridge medical centre for treatment but later died.
