WorkSafe reminds employers to manage risks associated with structural steel collapse

WorkSafe Victoria has issued a safety alert highlighting the importance of managing the risks associated with structural steel collapse during construction.

According to the alert, “a long span steel structure under construction collapsed unexpectedly in 2022. A large section of the roof collapsed and fell to the floor slab below.”

WorkSafe said no workers were at the site when the incident took place.

“Structural failures of this scale have the potential to result in multiple serious injuries or fatalities,” states the alert.

The alert provides information on what employers can do to minimise these risks.
