WorkSafe opens probe into fatal gold mine collapse

WorkSafe is carrying out an investigation into a mine collapse that occurred near Ballarat on Wednesday.

WorkSafe says the incident happened during hand-mining operations, leading to the death of one worker and causing serious injuries to another.

The workers became trapped under a rock fall at around 4.30pm on Wednesday.

Sadly, a 37-year-old man succumbed to his injuries, while the other worker was freed and flown to the hospital for treatment.
