WorkSafe Victoria has highlighted the critical importance of seatbelt usage and remaining within the Rollover Protection Structure (ROPS) when operating tractors. This follows a recent incident in which a farmer was fatally crushed after exiting a tractor cabin during harvest.

Agriculture comprises merely two percent of Victoria's labor force, yet it frequently accounts for around 10% of total workplace deaths, according to WorkSafe statistics.  Tractors and their attachments are the leading source of fatal incidents on farms.

“Jumping from a tractor during a rollover or loss of control is extremely dangerous. The operator can be struck or crushed by the tractor or any attached equipment, such as a trailer,” WorkSafe stated.

WorkSafe recommends multiple approaches to control the risk of being struck or crushed during a tractor rollover.
