WorkSafe ACT inspectors visit construction sites, issue 83 improvement notices

WorkSafe ACT inspectors have visited 47 residential construction sites in Taylor following the death of a worker on 8 December.

Six teams of inspectors worked across the suburb focusing on unsafe practices, with initial reports indicating 83 improvement notices and 11 prohibition notices were issued.

Two sites were shut down, and WorkSafe said the sites will need to be cleaned and secured before work can recommence.

Failure to manage falls from heights, lack of housekeeping, not testing and tagging and COVID safety, with no QR codes or COVID-19 Safety Plans, were the key work health and safety issues seen at Taylor.

Work Health and Safety Commissioner Jacqueline Agius said she was very disappointed.

"Given the recent fatality of a worker connected to this industry, I'm extremely disappointed to see there has not been an improvement of standards at residential construction sites in this suburb.

"As part of Operation Safe Prospect, we will continue to visit Greenfield suburbs and take enforcement action when we find safety breaches."
