Workplace safety watchdog set to audit Queensland businesses to ensure compliance with asbestos management regulations

OHS Daily News

From 1 August 2024, inspectors from Workplace Health and Safety Queensland will start reviewing businesses located in buildings built prior to 1990 and those that may have asbestos to verify they are following asbestos rules.

The audit will continue until October 31, with a specific focus on the need for asbestos registers and management plans.

The comprehensive audit covers the National Strategic Plan for Asbestos Awareness and Management 2019-2023 (NSP) and the Statewide Strategic Plan for the Safe Management of Asbestos in Queensland 2022-2025.

Its goal is to eradicate asbestos-related illnesses in Australia by averting exposure to asbestos fibres.
