Workers compensation fraudster found guilty and instructed to give back $78,000
A Victorian man was convicted for falsely obtaining $68,502 in workers compensation while still making money from his car detailing business, and was directed to refund the sum.
WorkSafe said the 50-year-old recently received a sentence from the Frankston Magistrates' Court following an admission of guilt to one count of deceitfully acquiring payments.
He was found guilty and ordered to pay a $10,000 fine along with the restitution order.
Return to Work Victoria Executive Director Jason Lardelli expressed disappointment that fraud, though uncommon, diverts resources from injured workers in need of assistance.
"Workers compensation provides crucial support to people recovering from workplace injuries or illness and is such an important part of their recovery and return to work," Mr Lardelli said.
"To deliberately deceive the system for personal gain is unacceptable and anyone who does this risks prosecution and serious penalties."
