Victorian company fined following fatal crushing
A Melbourne-based company has been fined $225,000 after a manager was crushed to death inside a shipping container more than three years ago.
The truck body manufacturer had earlier pleaded guilty to one charge of failing to provide safe work systems.
The manager and four other workers were removing panels weighing 3.5 tonnes from a container in January 2020 when the panels fell and pinned the manager against a container wall.
WorkSafe Executive Director of Health and Safety Narelle Beer said employers are aware of the risks of unloading shipping containers and therefore must implement safe systems of work.
