VIC companies facing charges following skid steer loader fatality

OHS Daily News

WorkSafe has brought charges against two construction firms after a worker died from an incident at a Bangholme depot two years ago.

The worker was struck by a skid steer loader operated by a colleague after regular working hours and subsequently succumbed to injuries in the hospital.

The incident happened in September 2022.

Each company is charged under section 21(1) of the Occupational Health and Safety Act for not providing a safe work environment.

The companies are facing one more charge under section 23(1) of the same Act for their negligence in ensuring that people who are not employees were safeguarded against health and safety risks.

The case is scheduled for a filing hearing at the Melbourne Magistrates' Court early next month.
