Updated Workplace Exposure Limits (WEL) to be enforced from 1 December 2026

Workplace health and safety (WHS) ministers have reached a consensus on the updated WEL list and a coordinated transition period until 30 November 2026, according to Safe Work Australia.

This adjustment follows extensive efforts and discussions to update the Workplace exposure standards for airborne contaminants (WES).

In an effort to emphasise the importance of adhering to specific limits and to bring Australia in line with global terminologies, Safe Work Australia says the WHS ministers have also decided to rename the Workplace exposure standards (WES) as Workplace exposure limits (WEL).
