Tasmanians urged to direct their focus towards workplace health and safety during WorkSafe Month

OHS Daily News

The Minister for Small Business and Consumer Affairs, Michael Ferguson has said WorkSafe month represents a vital opportunity for the people of Tasmania to stop and contemplate the essential aspects of workplace health and safety.

According to the Minister, the 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future is focused on transforming Tasmania into the ideal environment for residence, employment, and family life.

“Recent Tasmanian reports indicate that physical injuries in our workplaces have increased by 1.4 per cent, and mental health injuries have increased by 3.8 per cent in the 2023-2024 financial year,” he said.

The minister said 8,019 Tasmanian employees were injured at work during the previous financial year.

“These are not just numbers; they represent our colleagues, friends, and family members who have endured the consequences of unsafe working conditions.”
