State and Territory workplace Ministers hold talks on engineered stone

State and Territory WHS Ministers met recently to discuss a potential ban on the use of engineered stone in Australia.

Tasmanian Minister for Workplace Safety and Consumer Affairs, Madeleine Ogilvie said they discussed the ‘Decision Regulation Impact Statement: Prohibition on the use of Engineered Stone.’

“The Decision Regulation Impact Statement, prepared by Safe Work Australia, makes clear the risks associated with the use of engineered stone, and proposes a number of recommendations now for the consideration of Ministers,” the Minister said in a media statement.

“Our Government values a nationally consistent approach to ensuring that Tasmanian workers are not placed at risk, simply by going to work.

The Minister said her aim is to ensure the safety of all those who work in the building and construction sector.
