South Australian Truck Driver Joins Heavy Vehicle Safety Campaign

A South Australian truck driver has partnered with the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) to raise awareness about heavy vehicle safety across the transport industry.

Casuarina "CJ" Smith has joined NHVR's We All Need Space campaign, sharing online videos on heavy vehicle safety standards with her growing base of followers.

A Childhood Passion for Trucking

"As a kid, my dad let me sit in the trucks and go on the occasional trip with him, which is really where our love for trucking flourished," she said.

"Of his four daughters, two of us now work in the transport industry."

"And being out on the road myself, we're passionate about educating other motorists on how to drive responsibly around trucks."

Fatal Incidents Prompt Renewed Safety Focus

NHVR Executive Director Michelle Tayler said six fatal incidents involving heavy vehicles have been reported in South Australia this year.

"Sadly, those crashes have resulted in seven fatalities, which is tragic for those families," she said.
