SafeWork SA issues alert regarding the risks associated with nail guns in light of injury involving apprentice

OHS Daily News

SafeWork SA has issued a warning following the hospitalisation of a fourth-year carpentry apprentice who unintentionally discharged a nail gun into their thigh.

The incident happened at Tonsley in early June.

The apprentice was hospitalised overnight and required surgical intervention to remove the embedded nail.

This was the third instance of a nail gun injury involving an apprentice that was reported to SafeWork SA during the financial year 2023/24.

SafeWork urges all Persons Conducting a Business or Undertaking (PCBUs) to closely monitor apprentices and guarantee that they receive appropriate training and information for the safe operation of nail guns.
