SafeWork SA cancels class A asbestos removal licence

A South Australian asbestos removalist and demolition contractor has had their license cancelled due to a history of repeated contraventions.

SafeWork SA accuses the contractor of creating health and safety risks by “potentially exposing people to friable asbestos.”

“SafeWork SA will suspend, cancel or refuse a person’s licence renewal in order to address inappropriate conduct or practices,” the safety regulator said.

“Such action is a protective measure to protect the health and safety of workers and the community.”

A proactive compliance campaign on asbestos management is currently underway in South Australia.

SafeWork SA inspectors are visiting workplaces to ensure they have an asbestos management plan.

“Businesses with management or control of structures or plant, installed or fixed before 31 December 2003, need to be aware of their obligations with asbestos regulations,” SafeWork SA said.
