SafeWork SA audit reveals most solar panel installers work without fall protection

SafeWork SA inspectors issued 102 prohibition notices and 83 improvement notices during a recent audit of rooftop solar panels, prompting the safety watchdog to launch an education campaign.

The campaign aims to reduce the risks of solar panel installers falling from rooftops.

SafeWork SA Executive Director Martyn Campbell said, 'Solar retailers and installers have duties under work health and safety laws to ensure workers are safe when installing rooftop solar panels'.

'The installation of temporary edge protection or scaffolding is reasonably practicable and is typically considered the best protection when working at heights.'

The audit revealed that three-quarters of solar panel installers do not have a fall protection plan in their workplaces.
