SafeWork launches solar installation safety blitz

SafeWork NSW has initiated a campaign to enforce compliance with regulations regarding the safe installation of rooftop solar equipment.

According to the safety watchdog, safety inspectors want to ensure business owners are conducting safety assessments on subcontractors and that all workers in the industry are implementing safe work practices.

SafeWork data shows inspectors conducted inspections at 86 rooftop solar installation sites in 2022 and identified a notable level of non-compliance.

These inspections led to the issuance of 403 notices, resulting in fines amounting to $216,864.

The most common reasons for issuing notices were falls from heights, followed by falling objects and electrical risks.
