SafeWork inspection targets rooftop solar installers’ safety

SafeWork NSW inspectors are visiting solar panel installation sites across the State to ensure employees work in a safe environment.

SafeWork NSW Executive Director Compliance & Dispute Resolution Matthew Press said a similar operation conducted last year revealed some unsafe practices.

“The installation of solar photovoltaic systems on rooftops has increased markedly over recent years, due in part to government rebates, with NSW having installed most new rooftop solar panels in Australia in 2021,” Mr Press said.

He said solar retailers and installers have a legal obligation under WHS laws to ensure workers are not exposed to fall risks or electric shock, the top two safety risks in the industry.
