Safe Work Australia seeks opinions on proposed reduction of workplace exposure standard for aluminium welding fumes

OHS Daily News

Safe Work Australia is inviting comments on a proposal aimed at decreasing the workplace exposure standard (WES) for aluminium welding fumes from 5 mg/m³ to 1 mg/m³.

“We have published a review that recommends a reduction to the WES for Aluminium (welding fumes) from an 8-hour time weighted average of 5mg/m3 to 1mg/m3,” Safe Work Australia says.

The federal safety agency indicates that this suggested decrease aims to enhance the protection of workers against negative health impacts from exposure to Aluminium welding fumes.

The deadline for the public consultation will be Friday, 28 February 2025.
