Safe Work Australia releases new solar ultraviolet radiation (UVR) fact sheet

Safe Work Australia has produced a fact sheet on the risks of solar UVR exposure at work.

Australia has one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world, with at least two in three Australians being diagnosed with skin cancer by the age of 70.

According to Safe Work Australia, outdoor workers are at high risk of exposure to solar ultraviolet radiation (UVR). Solar UVR can also bounce off reflective surfaces like concrete, metal, snow and sand, increasing the level of exposure.

Safe Work Australia said, “Our latest fact sheet contains information on identifying when UVR exposure may be a hazard, and ways to assess and manage the risks associated with exposure.”
