Rural Road Safety Month reminds drivers to prioritise safety on rural roads

The NHVR is urging drivers travelling on rural roads to be extra careful around heavy vehicles this Rural Road Safety Month.

September is Rural Road Safety Month - an initiative of the Australian Road Safety Foundation (ARSF) that helps promote safety on rural roads.

Statistics show about 65% of fatal road incidents occur in rural areas.

The theme for this year’s Rural Road Safety Month is ‘The keys to road safety are in all our hands’.

NHVR CEO Sal Petroccitto OAM said more than 50 people have been killed in regional areas in crashes involving heavy vehicles this year.

“For all drivers travelling rural roads, don’t be complacent and remember to always be cautious around heavy vehicles.”
