Road worker suffers critical injuries after being struck by speeding vehicle in Waikato

A road worker sustained critical injuries after being struck by a speeding vehicle in New Zealand's North Island.

Police said the incident happened at a road worksite in Waikato on Friday afternoon.

“Roading contractors were working in Dunlop Rd, Waharoa, with safety measures in place, when a white Haval SUV drove through the work site at speed, striking one of the roading crew,” police said in a statement.

The driver was due to face court on Sunday, according to police.
