Regulator halts operations at Central Queensland coal mine following fatal incident

OHS Daily News

Queensland's mine safety watchdog has ordered a suspension of heavy vehicle operations at a Bowen Basin coal mine following the death of a worker.

Resources Safety and Health Queensland (RSHQ) was informed on Thursday, August 22, of an incident involving two vehicles that led to the death of a male employee.

Following the incident, RSHQ deployed inspectors from its coal division and the Serious Incident Investigation Unit (SIIU) to the mine site.

RSHQ Chief Executive Officer Rob Djukic shared his disappointment and worry about the second death at the mine in a month.

"We want to assure affected workers, friends and families that we are conducting a thorough investigation and are committed to taking appropriate action," he said.
