Queensland's Asbestos Awareness Week brings attention to safety hazards posed by asbestos when using high-pressure water hoses
Workplace Health and Safety Queensland has announced that the risks associated with the use of high-pressure water hoses on asbestos cement roofs, fences, and walls will be a central theme during Asbestos Awareness Week.
Asbestos Awareness Week takes place annually in November with the goal of raising awareness about the dangers of asbestos exposure during home renovations in Queensland. The initiative also aims to promote a shift in attitudes towards prioritising work health and safety.
It is against the law in Queensland to utilise high-pressure water hoses on asbestos cement roofs, fences, and walls. Those who violate the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (WHS Act) risk facing hefty fines and the obligation to cover cleanup costs.
In the past year, the Office of Work Health and Safety Prosecutor (OWHSP) has brought ten cases to court regarding violations of work, health, and safety laws linked to asbestos-containing materials.
