Qld mines urged to put safety first during storm season

Queensland’s resources safety regulator urges mines to prioritise worker safety during the storm season.

Resources Safety and Health Queensland (RSHQ) is encouraging mine operators to ensure adequate safety measures are in place during the storm season.

The storm season starts in October and runs through April 30.

RSHQ's Chief Operating Officer Rob Djukic warned mine sites against using temporary shelters during the storm season.

"They should never be considered a place of safety during severe weather events," said Mr Djukic.

"Those structures need regular maintenance, but don't just stop there.

"Make sure you're assessing all site facilities deemed to be places of safety during severe weather events."
