NSW Resources Regulator releases Quarterly Safety Report

OHS Daily News

The NSW Resources Regulator has released its Quarterly Safety Report for the period of April to June 2024, aimed at assisting operators of mining and petroleum sites in fulfilling their responsibilities in accordance with the Work Health and Safety Regulation.

The report outlines a thorough examination of incidents throughout the mining industry, emphasising safety performance and regulatory actions in six areas: coal mines, large non-coal mines and quarries (including gemstones), small mines and quarries, opal mines, petroleum and geothermal sites, and exploration sites.

According to the report, there were 517 incident notifications recorded, representing a 9% reduction from the corresponding period in FY 2023 and a 3% drop from the last quarter. Specifically, notifications for large underground mines fell by 39%, whereas those for underground coal mines rose by 11%.
