NSW reminds everyone to stay alert during National Asbestos Awareness Week

OHS Daily News

The NSW Government is once again urging employers, workers, and home renovators statewide to maintain awareness of the risks posed by asbestos.

Asbestos is found in one out of every three Australian homes, and in various public and commercial buildings, leading to over 4,000 deaths each year. The State Government emphasises the importance of National Asbestos Awareness Week to remind people to seek information and sign up for safety courses before handling any material containing asbestos.

According to Sophie Cotsis, the Minister for Work Health and Safety, it is essential for employers to ensure their workers comply with safe practices while working with asbestos to avoid any potential exposure.

“Equally, DIY renovators should be aware of the potential risks, stay educated and leave it to the experts.

“All workers have the right to go home to their loved ones at the end of their workday.”
