Mine safety regulator stops work at Wollongong mine over safety issues

The NSW Resources Regulator has suspended operations at an underground coal mine in Wollongong over safety concerns.

The Regulator says it has stepped up enforcement at the mine since April last year when it was notified of the first ignition event.

“The prohibition notice will remain in place until the Regulator is satisfied appropriate safety measures have been carried out at the site,” the Resources Regulator said.
