Melbourne frame manufacturer fined over serious injury to worker
A Melbourne frame manufacturer was fined after an employee suffered serious injuries when a 200kg load of steel beams fell on her.
The company had earlier pleaded guilty to one count of failing to provide a safe work environment after the July 2020 incident.
According to WorkSafe Victoria, the worker was using a crane to ‘lift and load steel beams onto a truck when the load shifted, hitting the worker and trapping her underneath.’
WorkSafe investigations into the incident revealed the worker did not have the right high risk work licence for dogging work.
The Melbourne Magistrates Court ordered the company to pay a fine of $40,000 and $12,213 in costs.
