Learning sessions aim to improve the safety of female farm workers in NSW

The NSW Government has partnered with Essential Energy to deliver free educational farm safety programs for women agricultural workers in regional NSW.

Minister for fair trading Eleni Petinos said the ‘Women in Agriculture Lunch and Learn’ series will focus on farm safety issues, including working near electricity, safety around farm vehicles, and at-risk workers.

“After the success of last year’s inaugural sessions, we have almost doubled the number of events this year to expand our reach to more women across regional towns,” Ms Petinos said.

“Tragically, farming accounts for one in every five worker deaths. That’s why these events are so important for the women at the centre of farming families – to provide essential safety resources and encourage safe farming practices.

Minister for Agriculture Dugald Saunders said the agriculture industry must make the safety of farming families a priority.

“These sessions are an opportunity to hold real discussions around the prevention of injury in the agricultural community, I encourage everyone to register and take part in this important initiative,” Mr Saunders said.
