Highest workplace fatalities in New Zealand in 2022 were in Agriculture, WorkSafe figures reveal

Preliminary data from WorkSafe NZ indicates that 44 work-related fatalities were reported to the safety watchdog in 2022.

The Agriculture industry had the highest number of fatal occupational injuries with 12 fatalities; Transport reported 9 fatalities, while the Construction industry had 6 fatalities.

WorkSafe NZ said, "The work-related deaths listed in this table are based on initial notifications to WorkSafe and provides preliminary information. Once the death has been investigated, more detailed information becomes available."
