Funding provided to mitigate psychological distress in WA workplaces

The Western Australian Government has revealed its decision to allocate $4 million in grants to mitigate psychological harm within workplaces.

“The Mentally Healthy Workplaces Grant Program supports workplace initiatives that strengthen an understanding of psychosocial hazards and work health and safety obligations, with a focus on practical application in real workplace settings,” the Government said in a media statement.

This is the second phase of financing, providing $1 million annually for the next four years, with grants available up to $200,000 for applicants who qualify.

The WA government indicates that the first stage focuses on increasing awareness and understanding of psychosocial hazards and recognising risks, while the second stage offers strategies and resources to manage those risks.

Industrial Relations Minister Simone McGurk said this initiative seeks to promote new programs that enable workplaces to understand and fulfill their psychosocial WHS responsibilities.
