Crush incident results in considerable safety costs for SA concrete manufacturer


A South Australian concrete manufacturing company has pledged to implement safety improvements totaling more than $462,000 following an incident that resulted in a worker losing two fingertips.

Last month, SafeWork SA approved an Enforceable Undertaking from the company in response to the incident that occurred on 29 April 2022.

The incident took place at the company's facility in Adelaide, where an employee was assisting a colleague in relocating concrete blocks with the aid of a front-end loader equipped with a bucket attachment and a lifting chain.

According to SafeWork SA, the Enforceable Undertaking entails benefits of $245,000 directed towards workers, $36,000 allocated for the industry, and $175,000 benefiting the community.
