Construction company fined over carpenter’s fatal fall
A Canberra construction company has been fined $450,000 after a carpenter fell to his death at a Denman Prospect worksite in 2020.
The company was fined by the Industrial Court Magistrate after pleading guilty to a charge laid against it over the fatal incident earlier this year.
ACT Work Health and Safety Commissioner Jacqueline Agius, said duty holders who fail to comply with their work health and safety obligations would be held to account.
“We take a strong regulatory approach to health, safety and wellbeing,” she said.
“A safe and healthy workplace is a basic right for all workers at all workplaces. WorkSafe ACT inspectors are enforcing compliance with the law in all workplaces every day to improve health and safety. We will not stop. Where safety is at risk, we will be there.”
