Company fined for serious forklift incident at Port Melbourne warehouse
A Melbourne court has recently fined a transport and logistics company after a worker was injured by a forklift in May 2020.
The company was fined $40,000 for breaching the Occupational Health and Safety Act by failing to ensure a workplace was safe and without risks.
WorkSafe said the worker was hit by a forklift after walking into a warehouse.
The court heard that shortly after a forklift was driven through an open roller door, a truck driver entered the warehouse through the same door. As he continued walking, the forklift reversed back and struck him on the leg.
WorkSafe conducted an investigation into the incident and found that the company did not have a traffic management system in place.
