Comcare prosecutes transport firm for workplace injuries

OHS Daily News

A national transportation firm is facing charges for contravening Commonwealth Work Health and Safety legislation due to an incident that left two workers injured in South Australia.

Subsequent to a Comcare investigation, the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions has initiated a single charge in the Adelaide Magistrates Court, claiming that the company neglected its responsibilities as stipulated by the federal Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (WHS Act).

On December 20, 2022, an incident occurred at the company's Mt Gambier depot involving a forklift. The forklift, which had its forward visibility hindered by a load of pallets, collided with two employees. One worker sustained a broken foot, while the other incurred a head injury.

The issue is set to be addressed in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on 21 January.
