Comcare charges defence contractor after fatal workplace incident

A defence contractor faces charges under the federal Work Health and Safety Act 2011 following a fatal workplace incident at a manufacturing facility in Victoria two years ago.

The commonwealth director of public prosecutions has filed a single charge in the Bendigo Magistrates Court, following an investigation by the federal work health and safety regulator, Comcare.

The CDPP accuses the company of failing to provide and maintain a safe system of work, and failing to provide information and training to workers, contrary to the WHS Act.

The charge carries a maximum penalty of $1.5 million.
