Charges filed after forklift strikes employee at VIC cured meats facility

OHS Daily News

WorkSafe has filed charges against a cured meats manufacturer following a serious incident in which a worker was injured after being hit by a reversing forklift at the company's warehouse in Melbourne in April 2023.

The company has been charged with four violations of section 21(1) of the Occupational Health and Safety Act due to its inability to provide and sustain a safe work environment.

WorkSafe claims the company has infringed upon section 21(2)(a) of the OHS Act on two separate instances by not providing and sustaining a safe operational framework to keep powered mobile plant and pedestrians apart, and by failing to ensure the proper maintenance of the forklift.

A committal mention for the matter is set to take place at the Melbourne Magistrates' Court on 25 March 2025.
