Builder faces charges following fatal incident at Melbourne factory

Legal charges have been brought against a construction company in connection with a tragic incident that led to the unfortunate death of a worker at a construction site in Cheltenham two years ago.

The charges stem from the alleged failure of the company to provide a safe working environment, as stipulated by the Victorian OHS Act.

Specifically, the company is accused of failing to properly address the risks associated with workers falling from height during the construction of commercial units on mezzanine levels.

WorkSafe Victoria brought charges against the company after a 69-year-old male employee lost his life after falling from the mezzanine level due to an unsecured ladder.

The case will be heard at Melbourne Magistrates' Court on 8 March 2024.
