Adelaide crane collapse prompts $350,000 enforceable undertaking

SafeWork SA has accepted an enforceable undertaking from a crane hire company after one of its cranes collapsed on a building site in Adelaide in February 2021.

No one was injured during the incident, but SafeWork SA said ‘the psychological impact of such a near miss can still be traumatic for people.’

The company will spend over $350,000 on a number of workplace safety initiatives, including organising an information session on crane safety and producing an animation video on the incident.

SafeWork SA acting executive director Glenn Farrell said an enforceable undertaking is a written agreement by the company to implement OHS initiatives.

‘Work health and safety carries with it important duties to protect people from harm, extending to both the employer and its workers,’ Mr Farrell said.
