WorkSafe Victoria reminds employers to prioritise silica safety in lead up to nationwide ban

As the nationwide ban on engineered stone approaches, Victorian employers are being reminded by WorkSafe about the stringent measures that must be implemented to safeguard workers against the hazardous crystalline silica dust.

Starting from July 1, 2024, employers will be prohibited from engaging in any activities related to the production, distribution, or installation of engineered stone.

WorkSafe Executive Director Health and Safety Narelle Beer urged employers to maintain compliance with the state's rigorous engineered stone standards prior to the implementation of the ban.

"It's crucial that employers continue to protect themselves and their workers and WorkSafe will continue to champion this issue as the engineered stone ban approaches," Dr Beer said.
